Baby Moose Moves In

This is from Sandy who lives just outside Nelson, BC.

This reads like something out of Readers' Digest, but recently a neighbour went for a walk up Falls Creek (near Nelson BC), found a baby moose in some distress in the creek. He got him out of the creek, tried to send him on his way, tried to find the mother. Eventually the baby moose stumbled back into the creek, was rescued again, and followed Jonathon home. Jonathon lives in a very small cabin, so he took the moose to another neighbour (Andrea), who took these photos.

I have never even seen moose in this area, so am bewildered that a recently born moose would be on its own, way up a mountainous creek. They took the moose the next day to Helen Jamieson in Blewett, who looks after wild animals.

She put it in a pen with a fawn. Apparently the moose calf/deer fawn combo is excruciatingly cute.

For you international types, Blewett is an area just outside Nelson. Lots of up-scale homes there in a gorgeous mountain setting.

The Red Deer Fish & Game Association will be holding their Annual General Meeting on November 17th, 2008 at 7pm at the Royal Canadian Legion 2810 Bremner Ave.

Elections will be held to select New Executive and Chairpersons as needed.

All interested members please attend.

New Government Website for Hunting & Fishing

The folks over at SRD have created a new online community for hunting and fishing in Alberta. Check out MyWild Alberta http://www.mywildalberta.com.

According to the press release . . .

"My Wild Alberta features hunting and fishing information, as well as a
discussion board, events calendar, stories, videos, Alberta’s hunting and
fishing regulations, and links to the Government of Alberta’s online licensing
site, https://www.albertarelm.com. It will also
highlight key initiatives and programs of the stakeholder
organizations."

ZONE 3 MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF APRIL unless it falls on Easter and then it will be the sunday after Easter.

The fall Meeting will be held the FIRST SUNDAY IN OCTOBER

Membership (June 2008)

Annual membership dues for Red Deer Fish and Game Association are as follows.
Youth Memberships $10.00 - note that the youth must be under 18 years of age.
Regular Membership - $30.00
Family Membership - $40.00 - note that first and last names for Family Head, spouse and dependants is required.

*Year of birth is not required for spouse.

*Other dependants must be less than 18 years of age and you must provide year of birth for each.

Range Memberships - $50.00 plus the purchase of a Youth, or Regular or Family membership.

Youth plus Range = $60.00
Regular plus Range = $80
Family plus Range = $90; only one range fee is required for Family head, spouse and dependants under 18 years of age
Keys for Outdoor Range available after completion of Range Safety Officer Course.

*Life and multi-year memberships not available.

Blog vs Website = Both

It's been a long time (almost a year) since we were last on the blog. Starting today we will be using it more and more for upcoming events and news. We will post duplicate info in both places - the blog and the website. At least for the time being. It depends on the what the members of the RDFGA community want. Heck - we might even get ourselves a Facebook group!

Speaking of the website . . . we've changed the design and layout as part of a major overhaul. We finally have some photos from RDFGA members available for viewing.

From hearing Ted talk about his experiences in the bush and his success in calling in moose and deer, it’s clear that his calling isn’t just for show but works and works well at putting meat in the pot and trophies on the wall.

2007 Red Deer Sportsman Show

Spent some time at my favourite booth at the show Mors Kochanski , a great outdoors survival instructor.

Had my picture taken with Bonkers the black bear. In the pic he looks like he's stuffed but believe me he's real. I was three feet from his right ear and he's very real.

Thanks to the folks from Discovery Wildlife Park , particularly Ruth LaBarge the trainer, for bringing these bears in. BTW: Bonkers is a movie star and even had his picture taken with Elizabeth Taylor.

New this year was a sausage making workshop hosted by the folks from Atlas Cutlery and Butcher Supplies from Edmonton.

Lots of memberships sold at the RDFGA table.

I don't know who won this raffle - but I know I didn't . . .

It goes for a good cause...and better luck next year!

Welcome to rdfga radio…news and events from the Red Deer Fish and Game Association, located in Red Deer Alberta Canada.

The Red Deer Fish and Game Association is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit charitable organization advocating the common interests of ethical hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts dedicated to the responsible stewardship of Alberta's environment.

We are a member club of the Alberta Fish and Game Association and are partners with other fish and game clubs through out the province of Alberta.

Our meetings are held the third Monday of the month at the Red Deer Legion in Red Deer, Alberta. If you are interested in becoming a member, come on out and meet the folks in the club. By the way there are no meetings during July and August.
